Proposed
Chapter Bylaws Change - The ASSE Chapter Board has approved
several proposed changes to the Chapter Bylaws. The main changes
are to the Executive Committee which won't be in effect until the
2010/2011 year. The Board wishes to streamline the Board approval
process by removing two Past Presidents and the Member-at-Large
CHMM from the Board reducing the Board from 12 members to 9 members.
Voting for the bylaws changes by the chapter membership will occur
during the August 12th Membership Meeting. Please review
the changes and be prepared to discuss and vote on them at the August
meeting. If you have any comments, please contact Dale
Walsh, Chapter President.

to the legislature regarding things the State can do to improve
safety in the construction industry. To view an overview of the

I
am very excited at the prospects for the next year for the Southern
Nevada ASSE Chapter. The Executive Committee is composed of some
very energetic, youthful newcomers as well as a good base of some
tried and true leaders. I anticipate a great deal of success over
the next year.
The
agenda I would like to pursue will focus on expanding the contributions
of the local Chapter to our community and to the enhancement of
local safety professionals via the following:
- Provision
of frequent, reasonably priced, high quality educational programs;
- Developing
outreach programs to encourage and increase participation in
the Chapter; and
- Encouraging
the youth in our community to pursue careers in the safety and
health field by providing motivational speakers at local middle
and high schools and providing financial assistance to high
school and/or college students to attend local or national educational
programs and/or conferences.
The
accomplishment of these goals will depend on the hard work of
our current and future volunteers and a consistent source of income
from events such as the annual golf tournament (kudos to Jerry
Ray) and the educational programs which will be marketed not only
locally but nationally. As they say in Real Estate, the three
most important things in driving up the value of your product
are 1) location, 2) location, and 3) location. Las Vegas is THE
location if you want to attract attendees (e.g., the ASSE PDC
breaks attendance records every time it comes here). With such
an asset we would be foolish not to take advantage of it.
